The Firecracker Foundation is a 501(c)3 charity with the mission of honoring the bravery of children who have survived sexual trauma with a community invested in the healing of their whole being.

We are seeking therapists in the community to provide consistent, quality therapy to children, and their families, who have experienced sexual trauma, in their existing practice location or at the foundation location.

Position Description:

Provide therapeutic services to children, adolescents and their non-offending family members who have been direct victims of sexual trauma. This will be a contracted position and all services will be paid for by The Firecracker Foundation.  Services will be provided in the therapist’s existing practice location or at the foundation location.

Typical Duties:

  • Facilitate individual therapy sessions for victims ages 3 – 18
  • Administer and interpret trauma assessment instruments for child and adolescent victims
  • Develop treatment plans for victims which may include:
    • Weekly individual therapy sessions
    • Trauma focused therapeutic groups for children, adolescents and families

    • Play therapy for children ages 3 – 18 as appropriate

    • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for children and adolescents when appropriate

  • Participate in clinical supervision meetings
  • Participate in monthly and/or quarterly team meetings

  • Prior to termination of treatment – Ability to assess and make appropriate referrals for children/families: psychological and psychosocial needs

  • Maintain service records and case notes for all clients

  • Submit monthly reports/billing information to The Firecracker Foundation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of the techniques and principles of child and family development, family systems theory, crisis therapy intervention, individual, family, group and play therapy, TFCBT, CBT, and child abuse and family violence, and trauma informed care

  • Considerable knowledge of community resources throughout the tri-county area

  • Strong communication and counseling skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with The Firecracker Foundation Board of Directors.

  • Ability to ask questions and communicate with The Firecracker Foundation when needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling from an accredited university

  • Completion of coursework and internships in clinical program and continuing education in play therapy and trauma informed services.

  • Licensed in the State of Michigan.

  • Three years experience in providing therapy to children and/or adolescents

  • Proof of received training in the TFCBT model
